Field Trip Options
This year we have 4 options for our Saturday field trips (rides). If you wouldn’t mind, please let us know what ride you might be interested in going on by picking your favorite subject. This helps us so we have a rough idea of how many riders would be interested in each ride and can make sure that we have enough ride leaders, as well as coordinating with our lunch sponsor to make sure that everyone gets their free lunch. We appreciate your help. Read below for details on each ride. There will be a quiz at the end! (k, no there won’t)
One last note: while we try to go out of our way to help every broken down scooter either by assisting with a wrench and spare parts or providing a lift back to the shop, and while that may be a possibility with the smaller in town rides and commutes to locations, due to the sizes, distance and variety of Saturday’s field trips, we’re afraid that we can’t guarantee a chase vehicle on each ride. It is best to make sure that your roadside assistance is current, just in case. If not there are a couple of local tow companies that will be listed in your rally flyer or check with national providers such as AAA (http://www.aaa.com), American Motorcyclist Association (A favorite of some of our members- http://www.amadirectlink.com) or even your insurance provider. Thank you for understanding, and if we could be on every ride with a chase vehicle we’d be happy to do so, however we’re just not able to do it.
Natural History
This ride will go west to Lawrence, KS, home of the University of Kansas, and an integral locale in Kansas and American history. This ride will be a longer excursion on some back roads, but won’t be a “Fast” ride. 125’s and up are welcome, but as long as your bike can maintain speeds of 45-55 MPH for extended periods, this will be a good ride for you.
We’ll head out of town, then travel off the beaten path through some quaint small towns before ending up in Lawrence. Once in Lawrence, we’ll meander through the KU campus and stop off at the Kansas Museum of Natural History where you can take a self guided tour that includes fossils, live exhibits, and the skeleton of a sea-going dinosaur that used to live in the Kansas plains.
After some time at the museum, we’ll stop by Chipotle for a delicious lunch provided by our generous sponsor. After a gas stop, we’ll continue our scenic ride back to Scooter World where we’ll break for dinner and preparations for Saturday evening’s prom.

Hydrology
This ride starts out from school playground and briefly follows Indian Creek as it winds through neighborhoods of Prairie Village, Mission Hills, Crestview and across to Swope Park. There we make our first “rest stop” at Colonel Swope Memorial. From there we head south on Blue River Road; a winding scenic drive with trees and parks and the famous ‘shoe tree’. We break for lunch at Chipolte at 135th & State Line. After lunch we mount up and head west and then north along Indian Creek Parkway and eventually end up back at schoolhouse.
Est. ride time: 2 hours + our lunch break.
Est. mileage: 30+.

Pop Culture in Kansas City
This field trip will take you to the homes, businesses and final resting places of some of America’s greatest icons – from the silver screen, music and literature – all with ties to the greater Kansas City metro area! While some were born here, others just passed through on their way to fame and fortune. Including a lunch stop, this ride will last approximately 3.5 hours. Don’t forget your camera. Ride is limited to 20 scooters.
